Known on the European Tour as ‘The Mechanic’, Jiménez worked in a garage before he became a professional golfer, but he says the nickname came about because of his methodical approach to his game, rather than his early job. However, fellow golfers insist it is because he loves driving his red Ferrari. A popular player, he is famed for his curly ponytail and love of cigars. He has often said he doesn’t like flying, yet he has consistently played well around the world, winning 18 European Tour events and playing in four Ryder Cups, in 1999, 2004, 2008 and 2010. He was a late pick as the fourth Vice Captain in Olazabal's team, leading to speculation that he might be selected as one of the Captain's wildcards. "I wouldn't be telling the truth if I didn't say that I would have liked to have been playing again - there is nothing to compare with that in the Ryder Cup - but next to that I couldn't be happier."
